Hi, I’m Alex Kazam—an award-winning writer, performance artist, and “internet personality” (at least, according to Google… whatever that means). Welcome to my website. Thanks for stopping by. But let’s rewind for a second. My journey didn’t start with some fancy corporate title—it started at age 15, with a deck of cards and a borrowed suit. I was performing close-up magic in restaurants, and by age 16, I had 4 weekly gigs at different venues. By 21, I traded the deck of cards for a shaker tin and started bartending for a large corporate chain. During my magic & mind-reading shows, I invite guests to share their most personal thoughts—anonymously—on slips of paper and drop them into the crystal bowl. At the end of the show, I use some of the entries for the show’s finale.
Over the years, I’ve kept hundreds of these handwritten notes.  

Now, for the first time, I’m sharing this incredible collection of human vulnerability and connection. Each entry has custom made artwork by various artists, and my own interpretations woven throughout. This book is a window into the hopes, fears, and dreams of people just like you. Each page reveals something raw, something real, and reminds us of how we’re more alike than we often tend to believe.

For those of you asleep on this, I’m going to say it one more time for the people in the back… I’ve been teasing something for about a week now. I’m putting in the infrastructure in place and awaiting confirmation on one last element before I blast off the announcement but I’m getting closer than I expected sooner than I thought! My mate @general_weirdness spent way too many hours, making something way too epic, that I’m way too stoked to share with you all. It’s a live-show taping, with interview footage woven-in throughout. A mini-documentary of sorts, capturing a show that I have had the pleasure of performing in various venues, at various times over the last 7 years. Most notably, for a multi-show run that was renewed 3 times for the Four Points by Sheraton Group in Niagara Falls. Totalling over a dozen runs in thar building alone! One of my favourite memories from this show, was a couple that drove up 6 hours from America, to see the show multiple times. The show is super special to me because my late mentor Paul Wildbaum helped me write it, and co-directed me in the original installation of it! Paul passed some years ago, but I still think of him and how much he gave me in all the times we shared together. Being able to carry on the torch, bringing a mix of Buffon, Magic, Mind-reading and Audience Interaction where every show is different makes me so happy to have ever had the chance to stumble onto the wonderful world that is the mystery arts. My friends L&C, were in one of the closest to fatal motorcycle accidents in Niagara’s recent history. To be honest, I didn’t get on my bike for a little while as I saw how both of their lives were impacted by the crash. The whole thing was caused because a 20-something year old pulled out in front of them to make a left-turn. To this day, every-time I get on my bike, I take a moment and calmly remember my friends’ injuries, the hospital room, the endless hours of aftercare and the sight of C in his wheelchair. By some stroke of universal miracle, and their own resilience and superhuman strength, they both made full recoveries and are living a beautiful life out west now. C squats 🏋️‍♂️ more than I do, and L is so strong she existed with an arm broken in a few places without even noticing, but she’s great now too. The point is, you don’t know what someone has been through, so why put them through more than they’ve already survived? Is a human life really more important than that phone notification? 🙂‍↔️ To all the amazing humans out there who take the time to honour the protocols of safe vehicle handling, including maintaining their cars, driving like a sane person, and staying off their phones. Thank you. Seriously. I’m a human. I am loved. I do my best to share love and light with others. Just because I ride a bike does not make me some kind of gangster or villain. Checking your blindspot, or giving the road your full attention might just be the reason I am able to get home safely one more time, and hug the ones waiting for me at home. Today was a day of educational moments and strange tests. I don’t feel like getting to deep into revealing any of it because the short of it is: “What other people think of me, isn’t my business” and the other side of it is, “don’t sweat the small stuff…and it’s all small stuff.” I’m not sure if I can for sure recommend the unicycle as a one-stop shop for solving all of your life problems. But I will say, staying in the same place, repeating the same habits and thinking the same thought that led to wherever you might be feeling unfulfilled or out of sorts, won’t do anything except give you more of the same. If your relationship sucks, take a step back, or end it. If you hate your job, quit. If you’re a drug addict, take ownership and get sober. If you “smoke socially” then re-evaluate what being social has to do with it. Are people talking sh** all around you? Let them. If you’re tired of your newsfeed, affect your algorithm by showing it what you ARE interested in. If you constantly get walked-all over by others, learn to say “No”. I’m in a season of “if it’s not a f*** yes! It’s no.” My phone background is white text over a black background and it says, “Just say no.” I’m not sure what the universe has in store for me, but clearly I’m making waves if this is the SH**STORM that seemed appropriate to throw my way today 🤣 😂 Ahh well, can’t win ‘em all. Not here to be a victim or play woah is me. Just sharing the dope unicycle because it’s so SILLY. Everything else is entertainment and opinion. Sometimes life gets hectic and when we wish we could have planned or prepared a little better, we simply couldn’t. My mate @ittakesguts2tri is a busy man, and when we bumped into each other at the Old Firehall Restaurant in @niagara.on.the.lake around boxing day, he mentioned having me at an event for @agritourism_ontario ! Flash forward a couple months, and Kev gave me a call. He invited me to come elevate the experience at AO’s annual award ceremony being held this year @13thstreetwinery It was last minute, but we spoke on the phone, figured out what would be the right fit at this event & made it happen. There were so many awesome people who were part of the audience, and brought so much energy. I’m grateful to have been able to be a part of the evening, and add something fun & hopefully different to the evening! I learned about Bill 186 and the Growing Agritourism Act, and got to hear some really incredible stories. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners. Tonight at dinner, @___marjia___ and I were deep in conversation—life, business, self-awareness, all of it. After eating, I didn’t feel like performing or making content. I just wanted to sit in that moment. But something inside me stirred. I felt frozen—like I couldn’t leave until I did something to uplift our server’s night. It was late on a Monday. Deep, our server, was the only other person in the place. Maybe he, too, was thinking deep thoughts (forgive the pun) or facing big decisions. When Maria returned from the washroom, I handed her my phone and asked her to film something spontaneous. This silly “do as I do” idea popped into my head. I handed Deep a glass of water and mimed along. There’s a special kind of magic in breaking the expected rhythm of everyday interactions. For a while, I stopped sharing my craft unless I was being paid—thinking it was cringey or unwelcome. But mentors like Baldini and Eugene Burger (both now gone) helped shift that mindset. They taught me: not sharing your gift can be a disservice. I don’t fully agree with calling it a “gift”—it’s countless hours of hard work—but I do believe in the spirit of it. If someone near me had a rare talent and never showed it, I’d feel like I missed out. Sure, timing matters, life gets busy, and there are always excuses. But tonight, I set all that aside and made a little magic for my new friend Deep. So… What hidden skill, talent, or strange cool ability are you sitting on? Are you holding back to let others “just be”? Or are you afraid of how they might respond? Either way, I promise the world gets brighter when you share your weirdness. Be strange. Be remarkable. Once upon a time I was invited to be a research participant with a professor at York University. I was put in an MRI machine and my brain was scanned, measured, observed! It was really neat to find out that of the hundreds of scans that particular professor of neuroscience had seen and overlooked, he said I had a brain with some of the most grey matter that he’d ever seen. He said it was likely the combination of my full time work as a creative since I was a boy, in combination with my passion for juggling and musical instruments. Whether this was just hyperbole and kindness, or whether it was indeed truth, it made me grateful for all the strange talents and hobbies I’ve amassed during my life so far; even more so for the friends I’ve made during their practice. I started juggling when I was six years old, thanks to a juggling workshop that Casa Loma hosted. To this day, whenever I find myself with idle hands near the lime section of a grocery store, I grab some fruit and start throwing it. Thankfully, I don’t have to keep my object manipulation desires confined to the aisles of big grocery stores, because my friends at the Bank Art House in Welland host a really cool Juggling Club meet-up every Sunday! If you forget your wallet…do this! 😂 🤣 Seriously though, sometimes I struggle with letting my partner pay for things. It’s definitely a lot of societal conditioning, mixed with my mother’s old-school European parenting style. I’m always grateful for every moment where people pull their own weight, invite me to things and even treat me with their hard earned money. The truth is, my whole life I’ve always felt very much like a bit of an outcast when it came to social gatherings, adventures and parties. Many friends whom I hold/held quite dear to me would go on cottage adventures, international trips, concerts and so on. But it always bothered me that I was never invited. Once, I approached one of these friends and confronted him, in a non-combative and classy way after he left on a birthday retreat without me by saying, “yo, wtf man…?” He replied, “Bro, I never invite you because I always just assume you’re already busy doing stuff. You’re always on your own adventures, making your own plans. You don’t seem like the type to be able to join others.” I found this answer confusing but also relieving. It was a compliment and a bittersweet truth that I didn’t realize I needed to hear. Entrepreneurship, specifically in the realm of entertainers can be a lonely journey. But the solitude is the price we pay to become exceptional and stay focused. This season of my life I’m remembering something @hormozi said recently, “If you want better friends. Be prepared to see them less. Because better friends are busy friends.” I love being the “man” and paying for dinner. I’m also really appreciative of a partner or friend whom I can let go of that pressure around and let them spoil me for a change. They are few in numbers but magnificent in quality.
